Austin inspects one of his life-size projections at MMCTA and The World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA) have partnered this year to support their ongoing mission to promote whale welfare at the this year's International Whaling Commission (IWC) Meeting. WSPA has spent the past four years lobbying governments and working within the IWC to put an end to the unnecessary and inhumane practice of whaling.
On May 18th, 2008 Austin's exhibit at the Monterey Museum of Art comes to a close. The entire collection including the audio/video installation will be crated and shipped to Santiago, Chile for the IWC's annual meetings in June.
Austin is currently composing a new large-scale video installation for this venue that will be in four languages. We need your support to make our presence as effective as possible at this meeting. Preparations are underway to secure additional computer and digital projector equipment suitable for travel and exhibiting in logistically challenging spaces. Austin and his technical support team are creating a mobile, multiple projection system that will be able to move to numerous locations during the IWC meeting to maximize the exposure of these creatures.
WSPA has been promoting animal welfare for more than 25 years. Their work is concentrated in regions of the world where few, if any, measures exist to protect animals. In 2004 WSPA formed The Whalewatch Coalition in partnership with seven other non-profit organizations.
The Whalewatch Coalition has been working together, lobbying governments and working within the IWC to put an end to the unnecessary and inhumane practice of whaling. Their collective goal is that the international community acknowledges that whale welfare is an issue of global concern. The coalition has now grown to over 140 non-governmental organizations in over fifty five countries. Visit www.whalewatch.org to learn more about The Whalewatch Coalition and how you can support their efforts to end whaling.
We are currently working to secure the equipment below for the IWC meeting in June, 2008. We have received invitations from all over the world to exhibit our large-scale audio/visiual installations in public and formal exhibiton spaces and we are working to raise support to meet this need.
